The name for Rivenoak Law® was inspired by a woodworking term. The verb “to rive” means to split or cleave, and in practice, riving oak is the process of splitting a log by hand along the natural grain. Unlike sawn lumber, in which a blade slices through the wood’s grain, riven oak preserves the naturally grown fibers of the tree’s heart wood. Riven oak boards are strong and stable, and resist warps and cracks.
